What classic movies should i watch that are tearjerkers and romantic?

February 132010

Ok so I have decided that I wanna watch as many classic movies as I can like I would prefer them to be tearjerkers because I’ve been told they are very good! So please give me any recommendations and they can be in black and white! The older the better! Also they can be romantic and dramatic and some trillers I wanna watch as many!

Definitely watch "Random Harvest" (1942) if you want to see a classic romantic tearjerker!

"Angels With Dirty Faces" (1937) Cagney is the man.
"The Third Man" (1949) one of the coolest films ever.
"The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" (1961) Stewart is the man; Wayne too.
"The Crowd" (1928) so sad :(
"Meet John Doe" (1941) almost as good as "It’s a Wonderful Life" (1946)

I’ve been slowly doing the same thing. I use Netflix and every now and then I like to move an old title to the top of my list so I can see it. Here’s a list of what I’ve seen so far that I’ve liked:

    Love Story (1970)

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958)

    Rachel, Rachel (1968)

    Rebel Without a Cause (1955)

    East of Eden (1955)

    Splendor in the Grass (1961)

    Suddenly (1954)

WOW! It blows my mind what some people consider to be "classic"…

If you’re really not afraid of some good "black-and-white" tearjerkers with a little bit of everything, try these:

    MILDRED PIERCE
    A PLACE IN THE SUN
    THE MISFITS
    THE LAST PICTURE SHOW
    AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER
THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES
    STELLA DALLAS
    I WANT TO LIVE!
    MAGNIFICENT OBSESSION
    SPLENDOR IN THE GRASS
    PICNIC
