Scenario: You meet a young,mild-mannered christian at work/church/school and you have a pleasant conversation with him/her. You come to find out through the conversation or word of mouth that they write horror for a living or watch/make movies of that genre. What is your reaction/thought and why?

That would really depend on the actual writings. I would not judge him based on the genre that he was writing.

The truth can be scary.

Most all Japanese horror movies seems to be about ghosts. Clearly they have a great fascination with Japanese folklore and the scary stories that come from such.

Why isn’t this the case with the vast majority of American horror movies though? We have ghosts too, but the interest in portraying them seem a lot weaker (’Poltergeist’ and few others). Instead, we seem more interested in blood and gore.

Can anyone explain the reason for this difference?

It depends on how we grew up. ( Nature snd nurture). Japanese children grew up with folklores, living with extended family in most cases. Their thought process are different than ours.
( the modern generation of Japan is being raised in a similar fashion as in USA, in the urban area mostly, They will be less likely to believe in ghosts like us)

What are some really scary horror movies? I would rather ones that make you jump, not just gruesome ones. Really really scary please!

I have only watched 2 horror movies so far and they have both really frightened me. Now, I cant even see a commercial of a horror movie without getting scared. Is that really loser-ish? I know its all fake and special effects but I still get really scared… Maybe Im just really faint-hearted?

in fact when i was 11 i had to get counselling cause of a horror movie\
if u find that u are getting really depressed and upset about it u should try counselling

The gore factor varies in these but most are not too bad. "Cello" and "Nightmare" have the most-gruesome moments. Most of these deal with vengeance, the common theme in "The Ring" and "The Grudge". I’m sure that you’ve already watched the sequels to these.

I’m doing a science project and i could use some help. Are horror movies bad for your heart? Do they increase your heart rate? If a doctor answers this question, thankyou verymuch!

the human body responds to real or perceived types of danger. The brain makes the body release large amounts of hormones and biochemicals which results in the increase of adrenaline, (epinephrine). This keeps your blood pressure up and makes your heart beat faster.

I want a movie made after 1990-ish that’s not supernatural-related and is just a really good horror movie. I’ve seen Halloween and Saw. They were pretty good but not the best. My all-time favorite horror movies are the three Scream movies, and The Last House on the Left.

I want a movie that’s got a really surprising twist ending and that is either a horror movie or a psychological thriller movie. Nothing older than 1990, though.

Some movies like this that I’ve liked: Sixth Sense, The Uninvited, etc.
