What are some stereotypes for asian horror movies?

February 152010

For example, usually in a whole bunch of asian horror movies there is always some sort of little girl who goes about killing somebody or are the ghosts. What’s some more stereotypes for asian horror movies?

Oh man Im glad you asked. You should look into Takashi Miike movies. Hope you like blood and gore. I recommend (as stereotypes) Ichi the Killer, Flowers of Flesh and Blood. But if you want mainstream horror, check out The Host from Korea, Ringu (the original Ring) or Ju-on (the original Grudge)

does anyone know where i can find a good online list of horror movies?
i am looking fo some new movies to watch but i wanna see if i can find something rare that i might not have seen before.

You can always go to www.fangoria.com, they keep you up to date on the latest and greatest horror movies that are coming out. That’s where I usually go or you can hit www.upcominghorrormovies.com and watch previews there and the like.

The nice thing about the Fangoria site is that they also have a huge news area that keeps you up to date on all of the horror on the horizon!

How can I watch Horror movies and not get scared?

January 282010

I’ve been watching horror movies a lot lately and i absolutely love them but i still get scared. Any help?

Watch the outtakes and behind-the-scenes footage IMMEDIATELY. Nothing like seeing someone made up as a monster start dancing.

Does watching horror movies cause peeps to have a mental sickness and less compassionate towards others?

Does watching horror movies cause peeps to have a mental sickness and less compassionate towards others?

I think it is different for each person. How involved is the person with the movies they watch..and how far displaced from reality are they. I personally love horror movies and they do not cause me mental illness. I also am an extremely compassionate person. Media of all sorts effects us…but movies are deliberately fictional and that gives them an edge I think. It gives them less power to effect us on a deeper level like the news or commercials do. They are deliberately subliminal, yes, but we go into it knowing this. Therefore, no, I do not think so.

Why do so many horror movies have the same stupid scenes in them?

January 212010

It seems to me that movies in this day and age lack intelligence.

More often than not, the horror movies I have seen show some girl in the shower washing her body.

Then, in the next scene, the same woman is standing in front of a mirror when something scary makes an appearance.

The characters in horror movies also do the stupidest of things.

Why is it that so many movies have the same scenes in them?

Where’s the originality?

you forgot running up the stairs when you could obviously run outside on the phone while screaming… whos there… in a night robe to someone having a vision on a plane about crashing into zombies …

I agree …

and they have the same scenes in them because its a proven formula that works for audeinces . you know .. like a cookie recipe …. it brings them there to watch it you dont change a recipe that works unless you are sure of what your doing .. The Problem is of course people get prettty fuking sick of cookies and want some motherfuking Chips ..

WIth DIp .

What are some good horror movies involving teens or college students?

January 152010

That’s not widely heard of, nothing supernatural, just stuck at an island or something with a psycho killer, something of that sort.
Like Deep Cove aka "Fear Island"
Anyone have a link for this movie that’s not spam or require to fill surveys?
Please suggest some good movies that involves a group of friends that gets stalked and killed by a psycho killer, something not popular, cuz I seen most of the horror movies that could be named.
Thanks!
:)

Halloween (1978)
Wrong turn
Evil Dead
Final Destination

(P.S. disregard the comment about Cry_Wolf. That movie sucked. There, I saved you your time and money).

What are some good aesthetically visual horror movies?

December 142009

I’m looking for horror movies with dream-like atmosphere, beautifully shot, great photography, setting, surreal sequences and creative effects. Try to name some that are not mentioned usually or may not have received a lot of praise.

Hi there- I am a horror fanatic- I love everything from campy slashers (they make me laugh) to brilliantly shot masterpieces.

I hope you like the following list. Not all of these are "horror" in the traditional sense, but they all contain elements of horror. Many are foreign. Release dates are to the best of my memory. The ones with stars (*) next to them are particularly "dreamy".

1. The City of Lost Children (1995, French Movie). *

2. Little Otik (early 90s, by Jan Svankmejer) *

3. Let the Right One In (2008, Swedish)

4. Delicatessen (early 90s, by makers of City of Lost Children) *

5. Tales From The Gimli Hospital (late 80s, directed by Canadian Guy Madden) *

6. Careful! (early 90s? directed by Guy Madden) *

7. Naked Lunch (early 90s, by Cronenberg) *

8. Eraserhead (1977 I believe, by David Lynch) *

9. Come and See ("Idi i Smotri"- very dreamy, disturbing Russian war movie about the WW2) *

10. Flight of the Innocent (1993, Spanish)

11. I’m Not Scared (2005 I believe, Itallian movie)

12. The Orphanage (recent movie, spanish, Guillermo Del Toro)

13. The Devil’s Backbone (90s movie by Guillermo Del Toro) *

14. Jacob’s Ladder (1990) *

15. Son of the Shark (1993, directed by Agnes Merlet, French)

16. Paper House (late 80s, called "the thinking man’s "nightmare on elm street") *

17. Afraid of the Dark (early 90s, french, very creepy) *

18. Manhunter (1986, first appearence of Hannibal Lecter, directed by Michael Mann)

19. The Other (1972)

20. The Cold Hard Light of Day (90s movie, foreign)

21. Lar’s Von Trier’s "The Kingdom" (aka "Riget", early 90s) *

22. The Exorcist 3 (I found the third movie much creepier than the first, w/ awesome dream sequences!) *

23. The Changeling (1980, I believe, with George C Scott)

24. Audrey Rose (came out in the 70s, about reincarnation- I liked it!)

25. Mute Witness (90s I think- takes place in Russia, I think…)

26. Running Scared (2007 or so- action but with horror/fantasy elements- not what I was expecting at all, Cameron Bright is awesome in this!) *

27. The Eye (chinese movie, less than 10 years old- NOT the american remake!) *

28. Dark Water (2002, from Japan, very creepy ghost movie)

29. The Grudge (Ju-on: original, not the remake)

30. Ringu (inspiration for the amercian remake "The Ring")

31. The Ring

32. The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane (70s movie with a very young Jodie Foster- not so dreamy, but still good).

These are more or less obvious but I want to include them…

The Shining (1980)
A Clockwork Orange
Eyes Wide Shut
28 Days Later
Interview with the Vampire
Akira
——–

The top 5 I think you would like:
1. City of Lost Children
2. Afraid of the Dark
3. Paper House
4. Come and See
5. Eraserhead

December 72009

I think that newer horror movies are scarier even if they aren’t as highly acclaimed as the older classics.
