How to throw a Bollywood Indian Themed Prom?

December 272009

Posted in bollywood | 1 Comment »

I am interested in getting advice on throwing a "Bollywood" themed prom for my senior year. I need advice on everything, design, events, colors. Everything. Can anyone help me?

Bright colors. Flowing drapes/curtains. Silks. Large pillows. Mosaic shapes/patterns. Scalloped arches. Flowers in bowls of water. Paisley designs, rangoli type designs. Maybe have someone who could do mehndi on people. Bangles. Depictions of some of the Hindu gods, photos of India and/or the Taj Mahal.

You probably need to stick more with an Indian theme, and then play modern Bollywood music. The more current stuff is more dance oriented. The older stuff might be a little bit of a turn off.

How does a movie distribution company get money to make a movie?

Most good movies are going to cost around $300 million to make. How does a company like Paramount, or Fox get that kind of money? I understand that they’d use money from past movies, but what if it is their first movie? Do they just go to a bank and ask if they can take out $300 million?

Investors…..when one sits at the table to hammer out a distribution and/or production deal, there better be a means to cover a portion or all costs. Studios are much more selective in the art of the deal.

Why is the French Cannes Film Festival so different and unique to other film festivals?

December 192009

*What makes it so popular and so unique than other film festivals?
*How did it become so popular around the world?

This is an article I found from the link listed below:

September 20, 1946
First Cannes Film Festival

The first annual Cannes Film Festival opens at the resort city of Cannes on the French Riviera. The festival had intended to make its debut in September 1939, but the outbreak of World War II forced the cancellation of the inaugural Cannes.

The world’s first annual international film festival was inaugurated at Venice in 1932. By 1938, the Venice Film Festival had become a vehicle for Fascist and Nazi propaganda, with Benito Mussolini’s Italy and Adolf Hitler’s Germany dictating the choices of films and sharing the prizes among themselves. Outraged, France decided to organize an alternative film festival. In June 1939, the establishment of a film festival at Cannes, to be held from September 1 to 20, was announced in Paris. Cannes, an elegant beach city, lies southeast of Nice on the Mediterranean coast. One of the resort town’s casinos agreed to host the event.

Films were selected and the filmmakers and stars began arriving in mid-August. Among the American selections was The Wizard of Oz. France offered The Nigerian, and Poland The Black Diamond. The USSR brought the aptly titled Tomorrow, It’s War. On the morning of September 1, the day the festival was to begin, Hitler invaded Poland. In Paris, the French government ordered a general mobilization, and the Cannes festival was called off after the screening of just one film: German American director William Dieterle’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Two days later, France and Britain declared war on Germany.

World War II lasted six long years. In 1946, France’s provincial government approved a revival of the Festival de Cannes as a means of luring tourists back to the French Riviera. The festival began on September 20, 1946, and 18 nations were represented. The festival schedule included Austrian American director Billy Wilder’s The Lost Weekend, Italian director Roberto Rossellini’s Open City, French director RenĂ© Clement’s The Battle of the Rails, and British director David Lean’s Brief Encounter. At the first Cannes, organizers placed more emphasis on creative stimulation between national productions than on competition. Nine films were honored with the top award: Grand Prix du Festival.

The Cannes Film Festival stumbled through its early years; the 1948 and 1950 festivals were canceled for economic reasons. In 1952, the Palais des Festivals was dedicated as a permanent home for the festival, and in 1955, the Palme d’Or (Golden Palm) award for best film of the festival was introduced, an allusion to the palm-planted Promenade de la Croisette that parallels Cannes’ celebrated beach. In the 1950s, the Festival International du Film de Cannes came to be regarded as the most prestigious film festival in the world. It still holds that allure today, though many have criticized it as overly commercial. More than 30,000 people come to Cannes each May to attend the festival, about 100 times the number of film devotees who showed up for the first Cannes in 1946.

Hope that helps!

I plan on sending an indie film to the 2011 Sundance Film festival in Utah and need to know some details about its procedures and regulations. What is the most films any ONE person can send in? Also what is the absolute dealine for submitting your film? Please no links to the official Sundance website because I have spent hours searching for these answer there with no luck. Thanks for your help.

Made and produced by the British, the only thing "bollywood" was the dance number at the end.

because of the actors that are from bollywood, and the dance number in the end.

Where can I find Free Movie Downloads available here in the Philippines?

I’m looking for some good sites where I can download movies.

You can watch free movies on http://www.bnwmovies.com/ It’s only old movies (my favorites =>) and all are free to watch. Most movies on the site can also be downloaded in high quality for free. It’s a legal site so you don’t have to worry about that.

Is the Apple Cinema computer screen which is around $800 any better than the typical monitors?

December 172009

Posted in cinema | 1 Comment »

An HP 24 inch glossy monitor is about 300 bucks….

so is the Apple Cinema just another piece of overpriced hardware?

It’s overpriced hardware with a purpose– The 24-inch Apple LED Cinema Display is designed specifically for their miniDisplayPort-equipped Macbook laptops, which is why it includes features like a built-in iSight webcam and Macbook magsafe power adapter. It will not work with any other brand of PC (because nobody else uses miniDisplayPort).

So if you don’t have a newer Apple computer (with miniDisplayPort), don’t even think about getting that monitor. It will not even work with whatever computer you are using.

Personally I like the Dell 24-inch LED display. http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Monitors/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=bsd&cs=04&sku=320-7956 It doesn’t have a webcam and isn’t designed for a specific laptop, but the LED-backlit panel’s image quality I feel is comparable to the Apple LED Cinema Display, and it has standard DVI and VGA inputs for use with any PCs. The Dell LED display costs $300.

I’d get the Dell rather than an HP (HP doesn’t have an LED display available yet).
